Product & Materials

What are Ra Lumière candles made from?

Ra Lumière candles are hand-poured from 100% pure beeswax, responsibly sourced from trusted European beekeepers.

Beeswax is a natural material created by bees themselves. It burns cleanly and slowly, producing a soft golden light that feels warm and natural in the home.

No additives, colourants or synthetic fragrances are used.

Is your beeswax sustainably sourced?

Yes. The beeswax used for Ra Lumière candles is responsibly sourced from European beekeepers.

Beeswax is a natural by-product of honey production. By working with pure beeswax we support traditional beekeeping and choose a material that is renewable, biodegradable and free from synthetic additives.

Do your candles have a scent?

Yes — but only naturally.

Pure beeswax carries a subtle honey aroma that comes directly from the hive. No perfumes or artificial fragrances are added, making the scent soft, warm and calming.

Why choose beeswax candles instead of paraffin?

Paraffin candles are made from petroleum-based wax.

Beeswax candles are completely natural. They burn cleaner, produce very little soot and release negative ions that may help neutralize dust and particles in the air.

In addition, beeswax creates a warmer and more natural glow than most other candle materials.

Are beeswax candles non-toxic?

Yes. Pure beeswax candles are considered one of the most natural and non-toxic candle options available.

Unlike paraffin candles, which are derived from petroleum, beeswax is a natural substance created by bees. When burned correctly, it produces very little smoke or soot.

Why are beeswax candles more expensive than other candles?

Beeswax is a rare and valuable natural material.

Bees must visit thousands of flowers to produce a small amount of wax, making it far more limited than industrial waxes such as paraffin.

Because of this, beeswax candles are often considered a luxury natural alternative, valued for their long burn time, warm golden glow and purity.

How long do beeswax candles burn?

Beeswax candles typically burn two to three times longer than paraffin candles because beeswax has a naturally higher melting point.

The exact burn time depends on the size and shape of the candle, but every Ra Lumière candle is designed for a slow and even burn.

Why does beeswax sometimes develop a white layer?

A soft white layer can occasionally appear on the surface of beeswax. This natural effect is called “bloom.”

It occurs when the wax crystallizes and is actually a sign of pure beeswax. The layer can easily be polished away with a soft cloth if desired.

Why does beeswax candlelight look different from other candles?

Beeswax candlelight has a naturally warmer and softer glow than most other candles.

This is because beeswax burns at a higher temperature and produces a light spectrum that is very close to natural sunlight.

The result is a golden, gentle flame that creates a calm and atmospheric feeling in a space.

Candle Care

How should I burn my candle for the best result?

Place the candle on a heat-resistant holder or coaster.

Trim the wick to about 5 mm before each burn and allow the candle to burn long enough for the top layer to melt evenly.

This helps prevent tunnelling and ensures a smooth burn.

How long should I burn a candle at one time?

For best results, burn your candle for 1 to 3 hours at a time.

Avoid burning a candle for more than four hours in one session.

How should I extinguish the candle?

The best way to extinguish a candle is by using a candle snuffer.

Blowing out the candle can create smoke and may disturb the wick.

What if my candle drips or tunnels?

Because beeswax burns slowly and evenly, tunnelling is uncommon.

If it happens, allow the candle to burn slightly longer during the next session so the top layer melts evenly again.
